Kididdle Songs

Music has helped me memorize while dancing on one leg in circles, much to my mother's dismay. It has lifted my spirits as a child and sent me into wild refrains around campfires or in the back seat of a car on a family trip.

Music has hurt my ears and my 'spirit' as I've listened to how various forms of pain are inflicted on others in some variety of rap. Now, I stick with Christian music that lifts me up. Yet even in Christian music lies 'religious teachings' through the lyrics that would steer you in the wrong direction.

And what about those lyrics and music that keep running over and over in your mind and you can't seem to shake them?

Yes, music gets 'down deep on the inside of you', even starting before birth. Your mother's voice was singing to you long before you were born. You knew her immediately when she cradled you to her bosom after your birth and she spoke soothing words, even hummed your favorite melody. I remember when my last child was born and screaming as he lay on my chest in the birthing room. I reached out my hand to touch him and called his name at the same time. He was instantly quieted. What song did I sing to him all through pregnancy? Of all the songs at the time, I picked one remembered from my childhood: "Mama's Little Baby Likes Shortning Bread".
